Today flight delays are at a historical maximum and at the same time controller workload is dramatically increasing. As air traffic grows at an average rate of 5 % per year more problems will arise especially for the control tower, the nerve centre of the airport. Today‘s ATC Tower procedures and systems are finding it difficult to cope with the growing air traffic demand.

ITAS™ – Integrated Tower and Approach systems – provides a new, open, modular and standardized product family solution. ITAS™ supports ATC, step by step on the way into the next generation of Tower and Approach Systems.

The Flight Data Processing System is one of the most important core applications of ITAS™. It provides data for the coordination between Tower Control, Enroute Control, Airport and Airline Systems. FDPS replaces completely the paper flight strips and therefore reduces the workload of the controller. It serves to provide a more tranquil and less hectic atmosphere in the Tower and Approach Control with more relaxed controllers.

The Flight Data Processing System bases on the Tower and Approach Communication System (TACO) from HP. TACO is currently in successful operational at the Zurich Airport. It handles very complex traffic situations, integrated with advanced ATM and airport solutions. Avitech and HP maintain in tight partnership the ITAS™FDPS product line. TACO’s combination of consequent product management with its high user acceptance, stability and reliability serves the long-term benefit of the customers..
